WESTPORT — Police charged a Darien man with possession of narcotics after police said he was a part of a one-vehicle accident in a parking lot.
Walter Hackett, 58, of Darien, was charged Sept. 20 with failure to drive in a proper lane, operating a motor vehicle under suspension and possession of narcotics, police said.
Police responded to the Sherwood Island Connector commuter lot for a call of a one-car accident in the area. Officers that responded checked the driver’s license and discovered Hackett’s license was suspended. Soon after, police noticed drug paraphernalia in his vehicle.
A New Canaan K-9 police unit was called to the scene to assist, and police said the dog found crack cocaine in the vehicle and Hackett was taken into custody.
Police said Hackett was released on the driving charges on a written promise to appear. His bond for the possession charge was set at $750 ahead of a Sept. 27 court date.
