NORWALK — A Darien man was charged with drug possession following a traffic stop Tuesday evening.
Narcotics officers were patrolling the area of Cedar Street shortly before 6 p.m. when they saw Christian Helies driving in the area. Police said Helies was known to officers and that they were aware he had a suspended driver’s license.
Police initiated a motor vehicle stop in the parking lot of a nearby Connecticut Avenue gas station.
According to police, Helies appeared to be nervous. He was advised by police that his license was suspended. When Helies stepped out of the car, police said a glass crack pipe was in plain view on the driver’s side floor.
A search of car yielded a folded $20 bill containing a small amount of crack cocaine and an empty bag that had contained heroin, police said.
Helies, 33, of Gideon Lane, Darien, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, failure to comply with registration requirements and possession of drug paraphernalia.
His bond was set at $120 and he was given a court date of April 12.
