Snow, sleet headed this way

After a brief reprieve, winter weather is supposed to hit back hard in the coming days, with the festive combo of snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Though the National Weather Service does predict a 20 percent chance of snow in the Bridgeport area after 1 a.m. Monday, things don’t really start to pick up until Tuesday, with a 40 percent chance of snow after 3 a.m. and a high probability of snow before noon. The high temperature will be near 32 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind chill value between 15 and 20.

After that, the snow will likely turn to sleet, says the weather service, with rain, snow and freezing rain all expected before 9 p.m. The precipitation is expected to turn to rain by 1 a.m. Wednesday.

New snow and sleet accumulations on Tuesday vary by location, with Bridgeport and New Haven expected to get between 3 and 4 inches, and Danbury expected to get 4 to 6.
