Another hot, bad air day with near record temps

It was close, but no new high temperature record was set Wednesday, at least for the Long Island Sound shoreline.

With 94 degrees, Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks had the highest temperature in Connecticut. That broke the 93-degree record set in 1974.

Danbury set a record on Tuesday when it reached 88 degrees, according to the Northeast Regional Climate Center at Cornell University.

The hottest temperature recorded ay Sikorsky Memorial Airport on Wednesday was 83 degrees; 2 degrees shy of the record set in 1974.

New York’s Central Park’s highest reading was also 2 degrees below the 92 degree record, also set in 1974.

With a forecasted 87-degree high, there is a good chance of breaking the 84 degrees set in 1998 at Sikorsky airport.

Inland areas like Danbury and Oxford both had a Wednesday high of 88 degrees.

On Thursday it will be a a couple of degrees warmer with highs inland at 90 and the high 80s along the shoreline.

The normal high for this day is 68 degrees - nearly 20 degrees cooler than the temperatures we’ll have on Thursday.

There is also an Air Quality Alert day for Fairfield and New Haven counties from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. High ozone levels may approach or exceed unhealthy standards especially for sensitive groups such as children.

Temperatures are forecast to fall into the low 80s on Friday.

The weekend is looking sweet with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 60s.
