Following a severe snowstorm delay, the Darien ski team raced on both Wednesday and Thursday of last week on Mt. Southington. On Wednesday, Jan.28, the Blue Wave took to the snow against Fairfield Prep, Staples, St. Luke's School and Westbrook. Co-captains Katharine Graham and Taylor Hart each notched a top-10 finish among the 80 varsity girl skiers competing. Graham recorded the second-fastest time on the mountain (48.74 seconds), while Hart completed the day's seventh-best race (50.05).
Overall, the girls' varsity team finished third with a time of 321.49 seconds, nearly 10 seconds shy of first-place Staples (311.64). The boys' varsity team defeated St. Luke's School and Westbrook, en route to posting a seventh-place finish.
"We have crossed the halfway point in the season," said coach Brian Zeyer. "The boys' team, led by senior co-captain Peter Del Col, is doing well with a record of seven wins and nine losses. The girls' team is having a strong showing with seven wins and three losses. We only have a few seniors this year, and they are all bringing in points for their teams."
