Last Thursday, the Darien ski team completed its fourth race of the season against Branford, Farmington, Pomperaug, and Westhill at the Mt. Southington ski area. Co-captains Katharine Graham and Taylor Hart each finished in the girls top-10, as did Kyla Pech.
Overall, the girls' team finished in second place with a collective time of 307.73 seconds, besting both Branford and Pomperaug. The boys' team recorded a time of 308.68 seconds, good for a seventh-place finish.
"The team did a great job last night under tough conditions," said coach Brian Zeyer. "The girls' team continues its strong performance and has a record of nine wins and three losses. Rebuilding is going well for the boys' team ... led tonight by promising freshman Brooks Daley."
The Blue Wave girl skiers included Graham (49.36), Pech (49.66), Hart (49.89), Maggie Skeats (51.04), Caitlin Keady (53.70), Carly Schoudel (54.08), Adrianna Dziedzic (55.51), Christina Molkenthin (60.14), Madison Maier (61.60), and Maggie Reilly (DSQ).
The competing Darien boys were Daley (48.32), R. J. Murray (51.38), Sam Arrix (52.00), Chris von Stuelpnagel (52.14), Graham Skeats (52.42), Mac Forbes (52.42), Gray Kline (56.19), Slater Lovegrove (57.74) and Seth Canaday (DSQ).
Earlier in the week, Del Col and Graham each earned themselves a spot on Team Connecticut, a 12-person high school team that will compete in the Eastern High School Championships on March 7, 8, and 9. The pair raced against 100 other skiiers from across the state. The championships will be held on Attitash Mountain in Bartlett, N.H.
