FAIRFIELD — The rich history of Southport Village is precious to many including the owners of the antique colonial house at 69 Rose Hill Road. This house was built in 1804.

Although they gutted the house and completely renovated it to bring it up to contemporary living standards they first did their homework. They researched residential details from the early 19th century, the period in which this house was built, and they replicated those architectural details even while installing modern features like air conditioning and a modern kitchen into the house.

No expense was spared. The wood paneling in the formal living room was milled in Virginia. The formal dining room received a hand-painted mural on all four of its walls, created by artist Michele Barbieri, who depicted a scene from Southport Village and Harbor. The murals include sailing ships, horse-drawn carriages, and recognizable houses that are still a part of the Southport landscape.
