If you are thinking about getting a four-legged friend for life, Adopt-A-Dog will have some of its stars on display every second Saturday of the month at Pet Pantry in Greenwich, 290 Railroad Ave. A longtime supporter of Adopt-A-Dog, the store is responsible for providing the shelter's dogs with the wonderful Blue Buffalo dog food.
Visitors can fill out an application at the store on Saturday, Feb. 8, to see some wonderful dogs. Adopt-A-Dog will be accepting applications for the dogs at the store or in its shelter. What better way to celebrate Valentine's Day than with a dog which will provide unconditional love?
Some people are wary of adopting a dog for a shelter. They are afraid that the dog may have been abused and will act out. Adopt-A-Dog makes sure that all its dogs are properly trained. The organization works with Tim Cook of Cook's Canines to ensure that every dog is suitable for adoption.
Tim Cook has been a great friend of Adopt-A-Dog over the years. He even contributes a portion of the proceeds from the courses he provides to dog owners to the organization. He is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and a Canine Good Citizen evaluator. Visit his website, www.cookscanine.com, to find out how he can help you right in your own home with any behavioral problem you may have with your dog.
Adopt-A-Dog is also sponsoring a pet emergency and disaster awareness course on Thursday, Feb. 13, from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Greenwich EMS Headquarters, 1111 East Putnam Ave. Do you know what to do with your pet during a disaster? This course covers all your options. The registration fee is $50.
Two of my lovely dogs are from Adopt-A-Dog. Allyson Halm, the organization's director, does great things with the dogs given to her who need a home. Many people have had to give up their dogs because they can no longer afford to care for them. These lovely animals are languishing at the shelter hoping to find a forever home.
Contact Adopt-A-Dog at 914-273-1674 or visit www.adopt-a-dog.org. My dogs have changed my life and adopting a dog can do the same for you.
