State Rep. Terrie Wood, R-Darien, is the ranking member on the Human Services Committee. She will also serve on the Regulations Review and Appropriations committees in the 2014 session.

State Rep. Terrie Wood, R-Darien, joined her fellow legislative leaders for the start of the 2014 session Feb. 6, then took part in a joint convention and heard Gov. Dannel Malloy's state of the state address.

The opening day ceremonies marked the beginning of the Legislature's short session. Over the three months, only allows bills related to financial matters will be considered or bills submitted by committees on any subject.

Wood will continue to serve as ranking member on the Human Services Committee. She will also serve on the Regulations Review and Appropriations committees.

One of the most critical issues facing the General Assembly is making adjustments to the state's biennial budget. Despite a $500 million one-time boost of excess revenue expected this year, which largely exists on paper, non-partisan analysts project a $1.1 billion deficit for the next budget cycle, Wood said.

"I agree with some of the proposals that the governor put forth, however I cannot agree with the way the state's financial affairs were described. This address did nothing to confront Connecticut's financial crisis," she said.

Wood will join her colleagues in the coming weeks to announce their caucus priorities for the session, which adjourns May 7.
