The AmeriCares free clinic of Stamford is seeking volunteers fluent in both Spanish and English to screen patients for eligibility and serve as interpreters.
Volunteers are needed to work one four-hour shift a month on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoon. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.
The mobile clinic is on the road three days a week making scheduled stops on Stamford's East and West sides and in the Waterside neighborhood, providing primary care services to low-income Stamford and Darien residents without health insurance.
The clinic, which opened in January, is the only free clinic in Stamford where nearly one out of every five residents is uninsured.
AmeriCares also operates free clinics in Norwalk, Bridgeport and Danbury, serving nearly 3,000 Fairfield County residents annually.
