The children of Tokeneke Kids Care Club were selected out of 80,000 kids nationwide to be "Joy Ambassadors" for GenerationOn and Hasbro's National Giving Tuesday initiative.
Hasbro gave the club 100 new toys to donate to a charity of its choice and the students provided another 120 new toys at a special Joy Maker event on National Giving Tuesday, Dec. 3.
At the event, 90 members of Tokeneke Kids Care Club created holiday wreaths for homebound and elderly members of the Darien community, and gathered 220 new toys, which they loaded onto a Noroton fire truck, to benefit the Marine Corps' Toys for Tots campaign.
Firefighter Alan Hyatt, who came to collect the toys, said he was amazed by number of toys donated.
As part of GenerationOn's I'm a Joy Maker campaign, the Kids Care Club continued to collect toys until Dec. 17.
The club hoped to match the 220 toys for its donation to the Darien Human Services Holiday Shoppe. The club chose to give to Toys for Tots and Darien Human Services so they could make a difference on both a local and national level.
