Several families gathered under the shade of the trees in Tilley Pond Park to listen to stories and sing songs with a group of children's librarians from the Darien Library on Aug. 5 as part of Stories by the Pond. The event, co-sponsored by the Park and Recreation Department, is an on-going program.
Head of children's services Claire Moore, along with Amy Loughlin, a children's librarian, and Lisa Nowlain, a Herald W. McGraw Junior Fellow, lead songs and told stories during the half-hour program. Nowlain told a Laos folktale of why the owl only comes out at night while Moore told "Muncha! Muncha! Muncha!" a story by Candace Fleming about insatiable bunnies and a farmer's attempts to stop their feeding. Loughlin also told a story about a puppy who could not bark, but would instead make noises other animals -- like pigs and cows -- make.
The next Stories by the Pond is Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 10 a.m.
