Thirty-one musicians from Darien High School have been chosen through a highly competitive audition process to perform at the Connecticut Music Educators Association Western Region Music Festival Jan. 17 and 18 at Trumbull High School.
The students will work in band, orchestra, chorus and jazz ensembles with some of Connecticut's most accomplished high school musicians conducted by nationally renowned conductors and educators.
"These students have consistently worked and studied over several years to been chosen as among the finest high school musicians in Western Connecticut," Richard Sadlon, the director of music in Darien, said. "This is the largest number of student that we have ever sent to this honors festival in the entire history of Darien High School and we are all extremely proud of their musical accomplishments."
The students representing DHS are:
From band: Sandya Avula, Drake Corrigan, Rebecca DeMaio, Sonia Gandhi, Danika Hornick, Catherine Lacy, Anna Moorhead, Eve Phelps and Justin Lang.
From orchestra: Matt Evans, Nicole Gagne, Justin Lindsey, Alison Lui, Grant Morro, Monet Takeda, Wen Yan Toh, Candice Wang and Chloe Zhou.
From chorus: Laura Anglade, Ben Hayes, Matthew Hayes, Diana Jackson, Mitchell Losito, Cristina Noujaim, Daniel Traver and Melanie Turner.
From jazz ensemble: Julia Evans, Channing Pear, Amanda Sload, Peter Traver and Dominick Wood.
All of the students who participated in the Connecticut Western Region Festival will eligible to audition for the Connecticut All-State Festival.
The schedule of performance is band and orchestra at 3:30 p.m. and Chorus, jazz ensemble and vocal jazz at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. The snow dates are Jan. 24 and 25.
