Robert George, 73, of 11 Stephanie Lane, Darien, was arrested March 27, on charges of third-degree assault of an elderly person, disorderly conduct and second-degree threatening.
George is an orthopedic surgeon in Darien and is a former member of the Emergency Medical Services Review Committee. George is also a District III member of the Representative Town Meeting. The EMS review committee ceased to exist after it was not reappointed on Dec. 2, 2013.
On March 18, George's wife reported that she was involved in a verbal altercation with her husband that lead to an assault March 10. She said she told George that he needed to see a substance abuse counselor, the report stated, and that she attempted to contact a counselor, during which time George struck her with an open hand on the back.
When she fell to the ground, she told police, George started to kick her an estimated five times, according to the report.
She suffered a fractured jaw and two of her front teeth were loosened, police said. She took photos of her injuries, which were used in the investigation, police said.
At the time she made the report, George had checked himself into Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan.
After she filed the report, police applied for an arrest warrant, which was filed with Stamford Superior Court the next day.
Police were able to execute the arrest at Silver Hill Hospital March 27.
George was transported to the Darien Police Department, where he posted $50,000 bond. A protective ordered was issued against George, police said. He was scheduled to appear in court March 28.
