Valerie Red-Horse Mohl will deliver a talk on "Expanding Horizons of the White Earth Cass Lake Mission Trip" during St. Luke's Discovery Hour at 9 a.m. Sunday, May 4, in the parish hall, 1864 Post Road, Darien.
Witnessing severe living conditions on a tribal reservation in northern Minnesota in 2007, Mohl's family partnered with a local community center to repair homes and bring Vacation Bible School to children in a week-long mission trip. Growing each year and including St. Luke's volunteers for the past three, the need for an additional homeless shelter suddenly appeared last summer. With an ever-expanding vision for the socioeconomic and housing needs of the area, Mohl and her teenage daughter Chelsea will share thoughts on their mission activities and partnership with St. Luke's.
Mohl is owner and founder of Red Horse Financial Group, which focuses on assisting tribal governments with economic development, and of Red Horse Native Productions to bring important native stories accurately and respectfully to the screen.
Of Cherokee descent and a resident of Los Angeles, she is a graduate of UCLA's film school and has received many awards for her professional work.
