Donald Pelletier III, 25, of 39 Lexington Ave., Norwalk, was arrested Jan. 9 on a charge of having a weapon in a motor vehicle.
A Darien officer traveling south on Noroton Avenue observed a 2002 black Subaru turn left onto Hecker Avenue without a turn signal and stopped the vehicle, police said. While the officer was speaking with the driver, who was not Pelletier, he smelled burnt marijuana and asked him if there was any in the car, police said. The driver showed the officer a tin cup with several burnt marijuana cigarettes, according to the report.
During questioning, the driver told the officer that Pelletier, who was a passenger, had a taser in his possession, police said.
The taser, Pelletier told the officer, was in his right front pants pocket and that he was trying to sell it, according to police. He told police he purchased the weapon for protection against robberies in Norwalk.
No charges were made against the driver.
Pelletier was released on $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 20.
