The program was started in 2013 by the secretary of the state's office to improve the voting process in Connecticut and is required for all poll moderators.
The moderator is the chief election official at each of Darien's six polls. The four moderators will also attend a four-hour refresher class taught by a state-trained instructor and a three-hour class presented by the registrars of voters in Darien.
Topics included in the training were Election Day foundations, registration requirements, poll setup and operation, using the optical scan voting tabulator, using the vote-by-phone system and sensitivity for dealing with the public. Leading the training sessions were Darien Registrars of Voters John Visi and Kathy Hammell.
