Four Darien artists received awards in the "Marine and Coastal" exhibition at the Rowayton Arts Center.
They are Jan Raymond and Yuko Ike, who won second and third, respectively, in the acrylics category; Bruce Horan, third place for prints; and Joanna Bridges, honorable mention for photography.
The winning artwork was selected from 76 entries by award-winning marine artist Brec Morgan, who said, "As a marine artist and sailor, everything about water fascinates me."
Morgan added, "For all artists, know that my selections are necessarily personal and anyone who toils in the field of visual arts should be encouraged to continue to develop their work. We need you all.
"For visitors, I hope you appreciate this especially beautiful and engaging group of water-related works. Robert Frost said, `The job of art is to clean the dirt off the potato.' There are a lot of water-washed potatoes to enjoy, so enjoy. Better yet, buy your favorite one and enjoy it every day."
Morgan said the criteria for selecting winners are visual impact, emotional impact, associative capacity and technique.
Other Darien artists in the exhibition are Pat Atkin, Dana Goodfellow, Ben Larrabee, Pam Lindberg, Madeline Mueller and Lisa Thoren.
The show runs through July 27. The gallery, 145 Rowayton Ave., in the Rowayton section of Norwalk, is open from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free.
