"Fiona," an original children's ballet, will be performed by the dance program of the Darien Arts Center April 5 and 6.
Show times are 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, and noon Sunday, April 6.
Members of the DAC performance company and some younger students will be participating in the third annual ballet production. The ballet runs for approximately one hour and will be narrated by Pax Bennett.
The ballet was written by DAC Dance Director Bonnie Gombos, who has been at the center for more than 17 years working with students from ages 3 to adult.
She is the artistic director of the DAC's Adult Troupe, and directs and choreographs the annual adult showcase performance every October and "Scenes from the Nutcracker" every December. She also writes the musicals for the Art, Dance and Theatre summer program.
Gombos said she was pleased to find that the performers in "Scenes from the Nutcracker" enjoyed presenting the abbreviated classic for younger audiences, so she decided a spring show for young audiences would be well received. Instead of undertaking another adaptation, Gombos decided to produce her own new story.
"Fiona" revolves around a young kitten and her friend, who get the opportunity to perform in a fairy-tale ballet on the big stage with their school's prima ballerina.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door or by calling 203-655-8683. For information, visit www.darienarts.org.
