The Darien girls hockey team cruised to a 9-0 win over Trumbull/St. Joseph on Saturday at the Shelton Rinks, as Amanda Sload netted the hat trick and Samantha Nielsen scored twice.
Darien coach Jamie Tropsa got all of his 22 player team in the game, including goalies Shannon Hall, Emily Gianunzio and Izzy Scribano, who made three, three and no saves, respectively, earning a combined shutout.
Allegra Molkenthin put the Blue Wave on the board in the first period, as Marissa Baker and Sload collected assists. Sload scored each of Darien's next two goals with Lauren Cicero assisting on the first to build a 3-0 lead by the end of the first period.
Nielsen scored her first of two goals in the second period with Ellie Bennett and Sload notching assists. Schuyler van den Broek struck next off of an assist by Georgia Cassidy, and Nielsen scored again off of a pass from Sage Thacher to boost Darien's lead to 6-0 going into the third.
Bennett scored unassisted, Julia Arrix notched a goal as Courtney Lowe was credited with an assist and Christly Conley and Molkenthin assisted Sload to help her complete the hat trick.
The victory boosted Darien's record to 4-1 (2-0 FCIAC).
