Two school records were shattered Saturday as the Darien boys track team competed at an FCIAC Qualifying meet at Wilton High School. There were similarities between the record holders: Both attained the school record as juniors last season and both have already broken the school record this year.
Nick Lombardo captured first in the high jump with a mark of 6-8. The mark broke his own school record of 6-7 set two weeks ago and also broke the Wilton Fieldhouse record of 6-7 set by Barry Todd of Norwalk in 1991.
Spencer McKeough won the shot put with a throw of 49-2, bettering his mark of 48-5 set on Monday six days ago and breaking the school record.
"This is just the start. There is plenty, plenty more to come from us," Darien coach Tyson Kaczmarek said.
Darien captured seven victories on Saturday. Lombardo tied for first in the 45 in 5.94. He also teamed with Cameron Smith, Mike O'Malley and Ryan Yuen in the 4 x 225 for the win.
Armstrong Noonan won the 1,000 in 2:45.50, while Brian Davey won the 600 in 1:28.74. The sprint medley team of Noonan, Santosh Krishnan, Robby Arrix and Marshall Huffman won in 3:54.40.
Other strong performances included James Farrington finishing third in the 600 in 1:33.06 and O'Malley taking second in the shot put with a mark of 41-0. Huffman claimed second in the 1,000 in 2:46.93, followed by Arthur Cassidy in 2:47.28 and Peter Kreuch in 2:53.67. Colin Meier was fifth in the 45 hurdles in 8.57.
