3 Middlesex teams going to national quiz bowl

Three of Middlesex Middle School's four teams finished in the top 15 percent of the third annual Charter Oak Scholastic Open Quiz Bowl in January, hosted by the Darien school. The teams qualified for the national championship tournament in Atlanta in May.

Middlesex Middle School teams finished in the top 15 percent of the third annual Charter Oak Scholastic Open Quiz Bowl in January. It was hosted by the Darien school.

Three of Middlesex's four teams qualified for the national championship tournament in Atlanta this May.

Twenty-six teams from 11 middle schools in four states competed in the Charter Oak quiz bowl competition. Students answered questions that ranged from the entire spectrum of middle school curriculum to special events, sports and popular culture.

The Middlesex students headed to the national championship are: Blue Team, first place, Julia Tong, Evan Tong, Thomas Brown, Folke Bruno and John Phipps; Silver Team, third place, Casey Martin, Griffin Samroengraja, Shashank Sangaru, Colin Adams and Maya Nalawade; and White Team, fourth place, Brett Peters, Kieran Daly, Cole Hanson, Henry Steinthal, Nick Derby and Jackson Leone.
