Neighbors Link Stamford received a $15,000 grant from the Community Fund of Darien to support programs in English as a Second Language, the Worker Center and Individual and Family Support Services.
"We at Neighbors Link Stamford are so grateful to the Community Fund of Darien for their continuing support of our programs," Catalina Horak, executive director of Neighbors Link Stamford, said. "We truly appreciate their partnering with us in our efforts to help immigrants join our communities in productive, healthy ways."
The mission of Neighbors Link Stamford is to strengthen the whole community by actively enhancing the healthy integration of immigrants. The ESL program involves about 1,000 students and 200 volunteers, and a special ESL Job Skills program includes another 120 students who combine language learning with training in practical job skills. In 2013, the Worker Center facilitated almost 2,750 day jobs, representing more than $250,000 in earned wages.
Support services, including assistance with housing, employment, legal and medical issues, and tax preparation, were provided to about 500 people.
