The Middlesex Middle School roof replacement project is officially complete and under budget.
The project received approval from the Darien Building and Health departments and the Darien fire marshal.
the Board of Education is the final step needed for the district to
apply for state grant funding, according to Michael Lynch, the district facilities director.
The project to replace the original 1930s slate roof was bonded for $750,000, but the entire project only cost $526,577.97, according to Mike Feeney, the district director of finance.
Additionally, the project is eligible for a 20 percent reimbursement from the state.
Remaining funds from the project were transferred at the
Feb. 24 Board of Education meeting to be used for the video surveillance upgrades in the schools.
The roof was replaced with Vermont slate.
