The Planning and Zoning Commission voted 4-2 July 31 to hire Avon-based Planimetrics as the consulting firm for the Town Plan of Conservation and Development.
The commission will use $75,000 from the 2014-15 budget to pay for the firm's services and is anticipated to request an additional $75,000 in 2015-16.
The Town Plan of Conservation and Development, which was last revised in 2006, will outline areas that can be improved, what should be protected and what services should be provided.
At the April 8 Planning and Zoning meeting, Glenn Chalder, president of Planimetrics, told the commission that three aspects are necessary when working on a town plan: public participation, a vision of what should be accomplished and implementation, according the meeting minutes.
The Town Plan of Conservation and Development is a state-mandated document that will guide growth in Darien for the next 10 years.
